Key aims

The activities in this section are designed to encourage active citizenship. Students will:

  • discuss the purpose and function of petition forms
  • explore the issues around selling and eating chocolate in schools
  • make informed choices as consumers and as active global citizens
  • debate constructively: promote, persuade and justify arguments on Fairtrade, backing these arguments up with evidence
  • take an active part in the school’s decision-making process
  • take an active part in the life of the school, neighbourhood, community and the wider world and to take action on issues of fairness and social justice

Key questions

  • now that we know about Fairtrade, what can we do about it?
  • how can we plan activities to influence others?
  • how can we make it easier for people to buy and sell Fairtrade products at school, at home and in the wider community?
