Key aims

  • introduce the cocoa farmers at the beginning of the chocolate production chain
  • show how farmers work very hard and don't have much security
  • show students that while cocoa, the most important ingredient in chocolate, is grown in less economically developed countries, most of the money goes to big international companies in rich countries

  • how is cocoa grown?
  • why is life so hard for cocoa farmers in Ghana?
  • which countries produce cocoa, and which process it?
  • why are cocoa beans grown in poor countries but processed in rich countries?
  • who are the multinational companies involved in the production of chocolate?
